Tehri Garhwal with its lofty mountains and turbulent rivers is an excellent site for trekking, mountaineering, and water sports like river rafting and cannoing.
The sacred river Ganga and its tributaries Alaknanda & Bhagirathi, meeting at Deoprayag, offer one of the greatest and most challenging adventures in the form of white water river rafting.
Down river from Deoprayag the Ganga transforms into a pool drop river.
The trek for Khatling glacier starts from Ghuttu, a place about 62kms. from Tehri. There is a P.W.D. Inspection House and a Tourist Rest House at Ghuttu. The other important places enroute are Reeh, Gangi, Kalyani trekker's paradise & is most suitable for skiing. It is about 20kms. from Budha Kedar and 15kms. from Malla ( Uttarkashi District ) by foot. All arrangements are to be made in advance since the place is devoied of facilities. About 17kms. to the east, Sahastra Tal at a height of 4,935 mts. is another spot of trekker's interest.

About 16kms. from Ghuttu, Panwali Kantha-Matya Bugyal are two sprawling high altitude meadows.
The colourful flowers during the months of July & August present a kaleidoscopic view of the area.
These are superb for trekking & skiing. There is an old Dharamshala, offering accommodation.
Budha- Kedar used to be an important halting place during the days when the pilgrimage used to be done on foot & pilgrims returning from Gangotri enroute to Kedarnath used to stay here.
There is a very old temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Buses are available from Tehri. There is a P.W.D. Inspection House, a Dharamshala and private lodges providing accommodation.
The famous Masatral, 3225mts. above sea level, is 16kms. from here. The trek is enjoyable but one has to make own arrangements for camping.
At a height of 2903 mts. situated in the interior of the district, the temple of Nag Raja at Sem Mukhem is held in high esteem by the people of the area.
Transport facilities are available upto Khamba khal, a distance of 64kms. from Tehri.
One has to walk for about 7kms. from the Khamba khal to reach Sem.
The temple is situated at the top of a hill about 5kms. from the village Mukhem which is 2kms. from the motor head of Khamba khal. Accommodation is provided by the ' Pandas' of the village Mukhem.

Khatling-Sahsratal-Masartal Trek |

The Khatling Glacier is a lateral glacier, at the source of river Bhilangna. Sahastratal and Masartal are on the west and east.
The valley of Bhilangna offers a panoramic view of snow capped peaks and glaciers of Jogin group, Kirti Stambh and Meru which are sublime and
magnificent. The whole trek passes through thick forests and beautiful lush green meadows.
In the rainy season, the meadows burst with splendid flowers.
Trekkers will have to cross scores of small streams on improvised log bridges on this route.
